Mengembalikan Makna Pendidikan yang Diwariskan Ki Hajar Dewantara

KETIKA Ki Hajar Dewantara mendirikan perguruan Taman Siswa tanggal 3 Juli 1922, konsep mendidik yang merupakan cikal bakal pendidikan di Indonesia telah ditanamkan kepada para siswanya. Mendidik menurut Ki Hajar Dewantara, berarti menuntun tumbuhnya budi pekerti dalam hidup anak didik kita, supaya mereka kelak menjadi manusia yang berpribadi, yang beradab dan susila. Selain itu, menurut bapak pendidikan nasional ini juga mengajarkan bahwa adab atau keluhuran budi manusia itu menunjukkan sifat batinnya manusia, sedang kesusilaan atau kehalusan itu menunjukkan sifat hidup lahirnya manusia yang serba halus dan indah.
Konsep pendidikan yang begitu sarat makna tersebut, menjadi pegangan awal tumbuhnya lembaga-lembaga pendidikan di awal-awal perjuangan kemerdekaan Indonesia. Seiring dengan perkembangan zaman, konsep pendidikan yang diajarkan Ki Hajar Dewantara mengalami degradasi. Konsep tersebut hanya tinggal konsep yang manis diucapkan. Konsep yang sering menjadi penghias sambutan-sambutan pada peringatan hari pendidikan nasional setiap tahun.
Setelah kurang lebih 88 tahun konsep itu ditanamkan, citra pendidikan di Indonesia semakin tidak jelas arahnya. Semakin banyak kaum yang dianggap terpelajar dan berpendidikan telah bercitra seperti orang yang tidak mengenal pendidikan. Semakin maraknya perkelahian pelajar, tindakan kriminal yang dilakukan pelajar, serta tindakan-tindakan asusila lainnya, mencerminkan gagalnya dunia pendidikan dalam mencetak generasi yang beradab. Sekolah tidak berhasil melaksanakan konsep mendidiknya.
Oleh karena itu, hari pendidikan nasional tahun 2011 ini, sebaiknya kita intropeksi diri. Apakah kita telah berhasil atau gagal dalam mencetak generasi yang beradab. Marilah kita kembali ke konsep awal Ki Hajar Dewantara dalam mendidik para siswanya. Tidak usahlah kita terlalu mengejar kemampuan intelektual sebagai tolok ukur keberhasilan pendidikan. Jangalah kita jadikan nilai ujian sebagai barometer keberhasilan kita. Bangunlah kompetensi kepribadian anak didik menjadi generasi yang betul-betul Indonesia yang mengerti adat kesopanan bangsanya.
